7 of the Most Overpaid Professional Athletes

Of course, sports athletes sell tickets, merchandise, advertising, and other things. However, there are some that are truly getting overpaid in their respective leagues. Here are 6 of the most overpaid professional athletes.

Jacoby Ellsbury

His contract was originally for a 7-year $153 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees. However, he was plagued with injuries from 2017. As a result, he was released from his contract.

Jared Goff

After making a Superbowl appearance, he was offered a 4-year $134 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams said that Goff hasn’t stepped up to the plate. They’re actually looking to trade him.

Chris Davis

He originally signed onto the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 for a 7-year $161 million contract. He’s underperformed each year being signed. The question is will he retire or move on?

Yoenis Cespedes

He signed onto the New York Mets for a 4-year $110 million contract. However, his injuries have plagued him and led him to be out of the game for some time. As a result, they amended his contract and he lost out on millions of dollars.

Josh Norman

He was to get $75 million for playing 5 years for the Washington Football (Washington Redskins at the time). After having lackluster stats, he was released and signed to the Buffalo Bills for 1 year with $6 million guaranteed and $8 million if he plays well.

Bryce Harper

In a staggering contract, Bryce Harper was up for $330 million for a 13-year contract. The ironic thing is he got traded from the Washington Nationals to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies didn’t make the playoffs in 2019 and the Nationals ended up winning the world series.

Chris Paul

He’s had an interesting few years. Being traded a few times from the Rockets to Thunder to the Suns. There have been times where his transitioning hasn’t been the best that kind of made his contract more than what it was worth. However, he seems to be meshing well for Phoenix Suns. We’ll see if he can truly earn his $160 million.
